Why veganism?

You already know the answer. You may not know all the facts of animal exploitation, but you do know that animals must suffer and die in order to become the products you choose to consume. You may not know all the sobering facts of animal agriculture’s impact on the  environmentworld hunger and human health, but you do know that human actions are destroying the planet, that many of its inhabitants are starving, and that there is a direct link between diet and health. You may not know all the practical details of living vegan, but you do know, and already live by, the fundamental truth that causing harm for pleasure is not a “personal choice” but an abhorrent abuse of power, and that refusing to impose misery and death for a taste, a trinket, a thrill, is not a sacrifice, but the most basic act of human decency. — READ MORE at Be Fair Be Vegan

What is veganism?

Veganism is a principle of non-exploitation that extends to all parts of our life, including what we eat, where, use, and participate in.

“The vegan principle: that humanity has no right to exploit others for our own ends. The vegan diet is therefore derived entirely from “fruits, nuts, vegetables, grains and other wholesome non-animal products,” and excludes “flesh, fish, fowl, eggs, honey and animal milk and its derivatives.” —  (Leslie Cross, 1951)

“A philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.” — The Vegan Society
